The Georgia Senate race is one to watch tomorrow. This is especially true with the series of allegations being thrown at former football star Herschel Walker and the personal nature of the closing arguments.
Senator Warnock during his closing arguments claims that Walker is a liar and said that : "And now he wants the rest of us ... to somehow imagine now that he’s a United States senator. ... He’s not ready”
To which Walker replied saying: "He talked about how I'm not ready. No, you’re not ready, because you either voted with Joe Biden 96% of the time, or you had no clue what you were doing. You pick which one you want — no clue of what you’re doing or you voted with him 96% of the time which is headed in the wrong direction."
These two comments displayed the increasingly personal nature of this race. The “lying” Warnock refers to is in reference to Walker’s, an advocate for the total ban of abortions, denial of allegations that he pushed his former girlfriend to have an abortion and paid for it. These claims were followed by documents that show an anonymous woman claiming a $700 check from Walker, and a “get well” card in his handwriting (confirmed by his son). Walker's own denials consisted of “even if I did it” tone. Thus, alongside some of his other skeletons, it's not a far stretch to say that these allegations are almost certainly true.
And although it may be easy to disregard this as irrelevant to the midterm election, as the GOP keeps the momentum, the real issue will be in the long term (for the real opponents of abortion). Control for the Senate is on the line, and instead of an experienced Republican who would have won this race with ease, the race is riding on a Trump handpicked rookie candidate who had no serious vetting. This is frustrating for my fellow Republicans.
But I guess it's better to have a hypocritical Republican than the alternative.
