Trump is running in ‘24 but the GOP needs better options

Jonah Goldberg// November 13th 2022

Trump announced his run for president, but the GOP needs a better option.

Trump's determined push for self destructive habits among the GOP has served as a detriment to the right. The GOP will stand at a stronger position with someone who will have potential to unite the country with their leadership. This is a sentiment that even his former Vice, Mike Pence, shares saying that not only do we need “a better choice” than Trump but someone who pushes the GOP's “highest ideals and reflect the kind of respect and civility that the American people demonstrate to each other every day.”

After the midterms, Trump pushed a narrative that Bolduc lost because he “disavowed, after his big primary win, his long-standing stance on Election Fraud” and that “had he stayed strong and true, he would have won, easily.” Trump would rather Republicans lose a seat if the alternative is a conservative who has no loyalty to him and the stolen election lie. Further, he has made it clear his insistence that the GOP must embrace messages ( spreading election fraud myths, defending January 6th , and rejecting early voting as 'illegitimate') that ultimately hurt republican candidates.

The GOP needs to deal with their Trump problem, being obnoxious is not good politics. Although he is arguably better than the liberal alternative, the party stands at a much better chance with focusing on someone who is able to accurately and civilly reflect the values of the Republican Party.

It would be a mistake to focus on a candidate whose primary concern is re-litigating past elections.
