News short: Recap of Judiciary committee meeting
Jonah Goldberg// November 21st 2022
The Democrats are always happy to waste time.
The attendance for today's Judiciary Committee session was humorous, with only 2 republicans and 6 democrats, quorum could not be met. And without quorum the Judiciary Committee was unable to accomplish anything today.
Although it was clear that the committee wouldn't be able to accomplish anything, Dem leadership refused to do an early adjournment. Senator Hirono even pushed her colleagues, who joined virtually, to vote blindly on an adjournment yelling “vote nay!” (to a colleague asking what was being voted on). After the failed motion, courtesy of Dem partisanship to spite Republicans, The Judiciary Committee then proceeded to introduce 3 new bills. Three bills, what about? I couldn't tell you because they were introduced through the phone, which was way too quiet, as the Dems introducing them didn't bother to show up.
Disappointing to see that even with very little time left in this session, committee members (on both sides) are still willing to sacrifice time to benefit their own personal agenda as opposed to working across the aisle to work as efficiently as possible. It is ridiculous to propose bills with no bipartisan potential but also ridiculous to purposefully miss committee meeting in retaliation. To be this far along in Session and still be unable to work together is insane.
This meeting and the behavior displayed by its members was embarrassing.
