Senators Share Their Biggest Takeaway

I asked Senators for their biggest takeaway from the session. Click the link to listen to their responses or read them below.

Cardin: My biggest takeaway is that bipartisanship is not something that can merely be said. It must be worked towards every single day that we work together. And it's something that I've learned in this session and that I would like to take with me moving forward is that we must be better than the senators that presided us and that came before us. We must work with the American people first in mind. And the only way we could do that is if we work together in an efficient way. And I'm very proud of the Budget Committee so far and all that we have accomplished. And I truly am grateful for all of the actions that were taken in committee to make our Senate session bipartisan.

Cramer: As Republicans, we fought hard as the minority party, and we really tried to represent our constituents. And I just want to say about the budget: Senator Peters is the only person who knows what's going on, and he's doing God's work cutting taxes for large businesses. We love Senator Peters.

Blackburn: I think the biggest takeaway is that our government is a mess, honestly, and that clearly the Democrats cannot handle being the majority party of the Senate. Considering all that we've accomplished, which is basically nothing really productive for our country.

Warren: My biggest takeaway is we came away with a huge win over the Republicans at the last minute and we delivered the landmark legislation they said we never could.

Gilibrand: I feel like I learned how to collaborate with people and come to a compromise.

Scott: Well, my biggest takeaways from the session of Congress that Democrats are proving themselves to be extremely incompetent. Their obsession with their leftist agenda has caused us to not be able to get as much done. But I'm still very proud of what us Republican senators have managed to do. And FMA Foreign and Military Affairs Committee, we managed to pass a law of bipartisan bills, which is something I'm really proud of. And I feel like the biggest takeaway is that we learn a lot about ourselves, each other, and also our country. It was really productive and I really enjoyed it.

McConnell: I think there's definitely been blunders along the way, but the importance of knowing when the whole group needs to be involved in a decision and the individual needs to kind of like act as a leader has been one of the biggest lessons that I've learned that and just kind of the

interpersonal dealings that are necessary for making something like this kind of function are two really big lessons.

Hirono: Working together is always the best option, working with everyone who is willing to put the American people first and what they deserve first has been and always will be my priority. I'm very, very proud of my budget team and everything we did to write our budget. I learned that working together we can accomplish many great things and that despite all of the bipartisanship that the Republicans claimed up until this point, we still put together a bipartisan budget that passed.
