Foreign and Military Affairs committee passes the “Veterans Telehealth Expansion and Accessibility Act” by unanimous vote.
Both the Democratic and Republican party were in support of aiding Veterans through this bipartisan bill. This was clearly expressed during a short debate period where a few members on both sides expressed their approvals.
Mccollin: “The Veterans Telehealth Bill seems to grant aid to people who ought to have it the most from our country being our veterans.”
King : “I’m sure I speak on behalf of democratic leadership when I express our favorability for this bipartisan bill.”
This moment of praise for this great bill was then spoiled by a comment by Senator Menendez who said: “I am disappointed that we weren’t able to get this bipartisanship last week with Senator Padilla’s veterans bill. It seems very hypocritical to me.”
Bi-partisanship is paramount to the productivity of the Senate but it is a difficult step forward. Thus any step in the direction of bipartisanship should be positively acknowledged. But, you can always count on liberals to complain, even in light of a success.
Following, the bill passed with an unanimous “aye” and the committee moved on to the “Safe Home Act”. Sad to say that the momentum of this bipartisan cooperation was killed by this poorly thought out bill. The rest of the committee time was wasted discussing a bill that is evidently riddled with logical fallacies, impracticalities AND adds to the disaster the Democrats have created at the border. This bill is what Senator King described as an “expensive band-aid”, as it simply stalls a larger systemic issue.
Thus after discussing and voting on a couple amendments to the bill, the Senators eventually voted to table the bill and adjourn the meeting.
