The Democrats’ Disaster Streak = Hirono

November 4th 2022// Jonah Goldberg

The Democratic Party, what an absolute mess. To be the MAJORITY and accomplish so little is genuinely impressive. The lack of strategy being used by Senator Hirono (Majority Leader) is largely responsible for the poor performance by the Democratic Party. Hirono lacks the critical skills of a leader and is unable to use her position for the advantage of her party. As a result, the Democratic Party is unable to make strategic decisions for the purpose of effective legislation.

In addition to the inability to complete tasks, Hirono has consistently been resistant to all feedback from her colleagues. So not only can she barely do her job, she is too selfish to push aside her pride to assess her MANY shortcomings. An anonymous Senator from the Democratic Party shares their sentiments on Hirono’s behavior:

“I am appalled by the lack of professionalism displayed by Majority Leader Hirono. There has been no effort to be bipartisan and create and pass legislation representative of the entirety of the American population, or any tangible evidence of civil collaboration with anyone outside of the Democratic party. She, along with Senator Sanders, has created an environment of hostility towards a diversity of opinions and has disregarded the value of any senator who dares to oppose them.” - Democratic Senator

Hirono doesn’t even respect the opinion of the other Democratic Senators, and to expect that she will be able to reach across party lines and collaborate with the Republican Party for the benefit of the American people is delusional. Hirono is holding back her entire party from being able to make common sense decisions and pass bipartisan legislation.

And in opposed to taking the negative attention as a sign to: take seriously the concerns of her party members and work to cooperate with Republican Senators to achieve legislation that would benefit the American people, Hirono has resorted to asking Lobbyists to convince the Republicans to cooperate with her. To ask lobbyists to do a job (initiate bi-partisanship) you as a leader should already be doing is both lazy and weak. Hirono’s entire approach to leadership has been one of little thought and her laziness has been evident in the weakness of the party. Hirono does not take her responsibilities seriously, and it has served a serious detriment to The Democratic Party. This unprofessionalism was evident in a careless mistake she made on November 3rd evening when she attached the Democratic Caucus floor strategy to a press release email. This resulted in the leaking of private information, meant only for the eyes of the Democratic Senators, to the press, the Presidential Cabinet and Republican Senators. Despite the reaction from this catastrophic mistake, Hirono could not have cared less and sent a half assed correction email. WOW. Not only did her poorly written, dismissive “apology”(and I use that word lightly) demonstrate a general disregard for the gravity, importance and influence of her position. But it showcased that despite the backlash she is receiving in response to her terrible performance, she has no intention of making any adjustments to her seemingly nonchalant behavior and feeble leadership.

Hirono has proven on multiple occasions that she is unfit for the position of Majority Leader, and as result should step down from her position immediately. To expect any improvement from Hirono when she can’t even send an email properly, is ludicrous. The Democratic Party has been struggling severely, as it is near impossible for the Democratic Senators to do their job with a Majority Leader that can’t do hers. Thus, it is the responsibility of the Democratic Party to urge her resignation so that they may open up the spot to someone who is willing and capable of fulfilling the position properly.

Democrats, you deserve stronger leadership! And the American people deserve bipartisan cooperation! Two things that are unattainable with Hirono as leader. Hirono can not be trusted to represent your interests and is currently the weakness that is stopping the party from progressing. She leaked your strategy, and constantly ignores your opinions! What further indication of incompetence do you need. Hirono’s resignation is imperative to the success of the Democratic Party, and in turn the productivity of the Senate, and needs to be treated as such.
