Thanksgiving is coming up and with it comes a legislative holiday where senators are encouraged to return to their states and celebrate the holiday with their constituents and family. Many Senators were asked what their upcoming plans were for Thanksgiving next week. Here’s what they said:
Thune: “Mostly watching football. I think that’s a big part of American culture so playing football with my grandkids that’s very exciting. More importantly, celebrating and being thankful for what we have, for this great nation we’re in. Really trying to push forward great legislation that will help everyone.”
Markey: “I’m excited to watch the Turkey Trot at my local YMCA, it’s something I do every Thanksgiving. And see my family of course.”
Murkowski: “I’m most excited to be Alaskans. I’ll be traveling back to Alaska with my family of course. I’m most excited to see the passion, the love, and the family communities that Alaskans have created. I’m excited to see just the snow on the ground across Alaska and I’m excited to go back to the state of Alaska because I believe it’s the most beautiful state, and I’m excited to see what everyone’s going to do with their families, how everyone’s going to bond, come together. Thanksgiving’s one of my favorite holidays because it brings a sense of community to all Americans across the United States.”
Schumer: “I’m really excited to have dinner with my family back home and hopefully stop in see some neighborhoods in New York and talk to some of my voters and wish them a happy holiday.”
King: “I’m looking forward to a little bit of time to breathe in some sea air and walk in the forest and really talk to some of the inhabitants of Maine. It’s been awhile since I've gone back to my roots.”
Padilla: “I’m so excited to see my family, get to go visit them, I haven’t seen them in awhile. My son just won the Model UN he got an award at Model UN over the weekend, and I can’t wait to congratulate him, spend time with my family, and you know, eat Benny’s tacos.”
Romney: “So excited to go back to Utah and see some snow. I love a good turkey and stuffing, you know how it is. Be with the family, be with all of my grandkids, gonna be amazing. Family first.”
Hirono: “I’m excited to be back in the warm state of Hawaii and see my husband, visit lots of my constituents, and you know take some time to finally relax after a long hard year at work.”
McConnell: “I personally, my family has a basketball game that I can no longer participate in in my old age. But I’m excited to see how the young McConnells do for that and I’m also excited to host my Thanksgiving extravaganza in the way that I do every year because I would know what that would be.”
Scott: “I’m very excited to just go and visit everyone and help everyone enjoy their Thanksgiving. See my family, go around and help set up Thanksgiving celebrations for the entire community to enjoy. I’m excited to enjoy the beautiful weather, the beautiful beach, take a little break before getting right back to work for the American people.”
Blackburn: “I’m so excited to go home, spend time with my wonderful husband Charles and my wonderful kids, and I’m just so excited to see my grandchildren as well. I’ve been missing them. We went to a Vols game a couple weeks back but I haven’t seen them in a little bit so I’m excited to go spend time with my family, have a little legislative holiday.”
Cortez Masto: “I’m most excited to spend time with my husband and just watch the new black Panther movie: Wakanda Forever and just enjoy time with my family.
Our President also chimed in on his plans for the holiday. President Biden stated, “I’m really excited to see my grandkids again. I just love being a pop to them and you know it’s always just such a pleasure to really reflect during this time of year and reflect back on what I’m grateful for. At the end of the day, I’m very grateful for my family and the privilege of being a Pop to my beautiful grandchildren.”
All of the reporters at the Washington Watch hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving!
