IT IS TIME TO REJOICE! Senator Ben Sasse has resigned from his Minority Whip position. Sasse has shown us all that he is incapable of professionalism and lacks the competencies of a leader. Sasse is not a team player and is only interested in acting for his own benefit.
Additionally, he has used profanity many times in the office and that is extremely unprofessional. He uses his social media, in which he uses to represent the beautiful people of Nebraska, to engage with pornographic and homophobic posts. Sasse claims to want to work with the democrats and create bipartisan bills, but in committee he makes childish remarks, and whiny complaints about the temperature and his seat being uncomfortable to stall a bill from being passed. He claimed, on my show, that he is being bi-partisan but the democrats are not willing. Yet, he pulls shenanigans in committee giving point of privileges about his chair or the temperature every two seconds. He claims that his actions are the result of the Republican Party being “outnumbered,” and that they won't win so “might as well stall it as much as we can.” That was not the mindset of a leader.
Last week Senator Ben Sasse filled in for Senator Lee in the Judiciary Committee, this proved to be an extremely poor decision. Sasse did nothing but bring chaos, and disorder to the meeting. Sasse made his presence clear when he consistently refused any sort of compromise with the democratic party. He refused to speak on the veterans bill in Foreign and Military Affairs committee, which he was assigned to be on, because he was going to leave to the Judiciary committee to fill in for Senator Lee. Instead of using his time to make a difference on a bill about legalizing immigrants that fought and fight for the US military, he was too eager to cause destruction in another committee. Whilst arriving to the Judiciary committee, a bill in regards to Same Sex Marriage was being discussed. Sasse thought it was a good idea to start problems when discussing such a sensitive topic. I myself am part of the LGBTQ+ community as me and my beautiful and wonderful wife live in New York. I find absolutely horrific when he called the same sex marriage bill a “waste of time.” As not only have we finally gained our rights to be married via the Supreme Court in 2015, but we are now balancing a transphobic and homophobic senator that is trying to rid of these rights. It hurts me to hear him say that “we are wasting our time debating about pronouns.” This is not the mindset of a leader nor of a President of a University that has students and staff that identify in the LGBTQ+ community. We see these students protesting against him becoming the President of their school for these exact Anti-LGBTQ+ acts.
On my show, Sasse talks about his day and how he is “thriving off the theatrics in the Judiciary Committee.” Ben Sasse seems to think not being willing to work with opposing sides is humorous? I think that is highly unprofessional and hypocritical because he claims that the democrats are the ones not being willing to work with the Republicans. He also says he is for the people, but seems to make the motion to kick the media out of every committee and meeting he can. However his actions display a lack of transparency and don't at all seem very “for the people” to me. Sasse, I have a question for you. If you know you are outnumbered, why not try to make a compromise? I just don’t understand the strategy simply because as he said it is to “waste time on these votes to recess.” Which is why we don’t get this important legislation passed, wherever Sasse is.
Sasse has also honorably resigned from his position as minority whip, but can we ask why he did? The first week of session we saw Sasse being so careless about what he was saying and doing. He made jokes about serious situations, and his own bills. As the sessions progressed, we saw Sasse being more and more quiet. According to a Republican, “Sasse was warned by all of us to calm it down, or he would be kicked off.” To my knowledge and a few others that confirmed this, Sasse was given the option to honorably step down from his leadership position or he would be voted out in the Caucus on Wednesday Oct 26 2022. With honor Sasse made the right decision to step down, and Senator Lindsey Graham is now taking over the minority whip position.
Citizen Richard Fox says that, “he thinks that no longer being whip will free him up to be more bi-partisan.” We will need to wait in coming weeks to see if that is true. Also he stated that Sasse went “off the rails'', but is going back to the “Ben Sasse they’ve always known.” So we see hope for Ben Sasse and hopefully this extra time he has and less stress will allow him to truly change and be the Sasse that the people of Nebraska know and love. Maybe we will see more cooperation with him in the future times to come.
