Misogyny and Ignorance At It’s Finest

Today in congress we are facing an issue that women are facing all around the world, Misogyny. We have seen this being prevalent in the Republicans side of our congress. In the Republican congress, Senator Marsha Blackburn is being completely mistreated by her male colleagues. Last Monday, we witnessed a public argument between her and Senator Cornyn after Cornyn told her she was terrible at her job and he should be at the top. In committee Cornyn said exactly, “If I was the ranking minority member, I would be doing a much better job than you.” The nerve Cornyn had to even say this in front of their colleagues to embarrass Blackburn is ridiculous. Now let’s ask ourselves this, would Cornyn have said this if Blackburn

was male? I don't think he would even dare. This is one of the many instances that have occurred between Blackburn and Cornyn. There has also been some amongst Blackburn and Cruz as well. These misogynistic acts are absolutely repulsive. These men think they have so much power to mistreat women. AND these same men are the ones claiming there is no division in the party and that everyone is getting along perfectly. You DO NOT see this happening in the democratic party.

It had also been brought to my attention that Senator Cruz has threatened to make the Judiciary committee hard and difficult if what he wanted wasn’t passed. Sounds like he's a brat. He demanded to Senator Klobuchar that if he didn’t get the changes he wanted, that he would “make it nearly impossible to pass legislation in the judiciary committee.” Now he claims he is doing things for the good of the people, yet he throws a fit when he cant get what he wants and will threaten a woman to get it. Frankly his threats did not work. Nothing will be catered to just him, and I have no doubt that Senator Klobuchar will do whatever she can to make sure it is a bipartisan vote and consensus for the benefit of congress and the American people. It

was also seen in the last floor session that while senator Hirono talked about misogyny, Senator Sasse was chuckling, Senator Cornyn was seemingly dazing off into space, and Senator Scott was shaking his head disapprovingly. We see this ignorance by the men in the Republican Party when Senators in the Republican Party shamed the Democrats for calling them out on misogyny. They claimed nothing of the sorts was happening and it was unprofessional and deceitful to say that. This defense mechanism that I am seeing is proving these men more and more guilty. Cornyn also has continuously attacked Hirono on twitter and social media about how bad of a leader she is.

Another Senator on the Republican side has also admitted that they were forced to yield their time to Senator Cruz by their party. I find this absolutely outrageous because they are not only trying to control these women, but they are trying to silence them. This makes me enraged. I believe that everyone in this congress has the right to speak and should not be forced to yield their time due to a man wanting more time to speak. You have your time to speak and you agreed on this amount of time, you get no more unless someone on your side has nothing to say which negatively reflects on them.

Today in committee we also saw Senator Cruz commenting on how he wanted to correct the rules yet it was pointed out to him 5 times that he is arguing on rules that he voted for. Klobuchar said, “you read the rules and voted on them agreeing to them. Why are you acting like you don’t know the rules?” Senator Cruz then begins to flip through a booklet which did not contain the rules to find an argument. He

can’t seem to go with his own vote and even follow the rules that had been set over a month ago. Cruz wants things to go his way and when it doesn’t he makes sure no one is allowed to do anything unless its in his interest. Senator Klobuchar and many other women in our congress on both sides have said that they “urge the republican party to take a good look at the way their male senators are treating the women in both parties as this behavior is highly unacceptable and should not be tolerated.” So I urge all the women and men in Congress, especially the Republican Party, to open their eyes to the misogyny. To fix the problem, and move forward with doing things for the people.
