I Applaud you Senator Hirono

By Rachel Maddow

Being the Majority Leader comes with a lot of responsibility, pressure, and expectations. Senator Hirono is doing an amazing job for what she has been allowed to do. Senator Hirono has been in contact with me about her efforts to provide the best amount of service to the party and the people of America that she is capable of. She takes calls from all times of day, dropping anything and everything to be there

for her party. I cannot count on my hands how many times she has been up till 3 A.M. working on legislation, working with other democratic senators, and with her own duties. She has been able to be bipartisan and show up to work everyday. Senator Hirono is doing the best she can and I say it is more than enough. Senator Hirono is dedicated to helping our senate pass bipartisan legislation and to help her party as well and the American people. She has made mistakes but everyone has.

What may seem as a very foolish call, Hirono has made well thought out decisions to approach a situation in the most effective way. She has made many decisions in order to be as bipartisan as possible and she has worked tirelessly with Senator Mcconnell and other senators to come to a consensus on bills. She has been able to help create 16 bills that are under consideration for committee. She has also helped with passing the Lobster act, veterans telehealth and Ukraine bills. Not only does she focus on our present but our future. She wants what is best for the people and she will always have them in her best interests. When she was pushing for the same sex and interracial marriage bill, she wanted to make sure that she was pushing to protect our rights to love who ever we want after Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas mentioned wanting to overturn these rights. She mentioned in her latest floor speech, “ Republicans refuse to budge…. I have made all these points and more to my colleagues across the aisle

and they refuse to give Americans the love and rights they deserve.” It honestly doesn’t make sense to me how people can disrespect her when she speaks. Then, they refuse to listen to her when not only has she proved that she's a good leader but it is obvious as well that she is doing the best for the people.

When it comes to the Republicans, many of them have called this bill a waste of time, yet I never understood why they did so much to postpone it, instead of voting no. Senator Hirono also notes that, “Minority Leader Mitch McConnell himself is in an interracial marriage, but he and the rest of his party are not only unwilling to work together on this bill but unwilling to allow free and fair debate upon the bill. They are killing this bill, and with it, they are killing the love of millions of Americans.” I am repulsed by the actions of the Republicans and I applaud the Democrats for continuing this fight. Although the bill has been withdrawn due to the filibuster executed by the Republicans, there are already more bills like this one in the works. It was also said that she had been wasting time putting this bill on the agenda, but I would like everyone to recognize how she was able to get two bipartisan bills passed so in my eyes, no time was wasted. If anything, we see the Republicans wasting time by filibustering and denying Senator Hirono’s request on the floor to move to a vote, showing they had no attempts to pass it, nor vote on it. Despite their clear opposition to the bill, none of them were willing to go on the record stating this strong opinion that stopped all progress on the Senate floor. Now in my opinion a filibuster is a waste of time, but I guess no one is ready for that conversation yet.

The Democratic party is truly for the people. They are for all love, genders, rights, and safety. They are working hard with an amazing leader that I have no doubt will lead our senate and Democratic party to pass very important legislation. I applaud you Senator Hirono and I will stand by your side as you navigate through this. I know you are doing the job that many would find extremely challenging. Continue working as hard as you are, and I have no doubt you will continue to make a true difference in this world.
