Ben Not So Sassy

By Rachel Maddow

Maybe it is the season of thankfulness or the merry season coming up, but Sasse has turned over a new leaf. In congress for the past few weeks, Sasse has gotten quieter and actually been a better person in our Congress. Last week, Senator Sasse proposed a new bill that I find to be very liberal. He has worked very well with not only other Republicans but with Democrats. Sasse has shown that he is trying to be very bipartisan and trying to do things for the people instead of himself. When I saw my absolutely

“favorite” senator changed who he was when he resigned it made my heart jump with joy. Who knew that losing his title would really put him in his place? Looks like it should’ve happened sooner. Sasse has become so quiet it is as if he does not exist anymore. He has become so quiet that I myself am not able to even say much about him. Now I do not know if that is a good thing or if we should be scared that he is plotting against us.

I spoke with Senator Sasse about his new persona and this is what he had to say. “Frankly, I don’t believe I’m turning over a new leaf. In 2020, when civil unrest was running rampant, I cosponsored the JUSTICE Act along with Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina. Personally, I don’t consider a bill that would improve our institutional practices a “liberal bill”. It’s an American bill. It’ll protect the lives of Americans who are vulnerable to police brutality, specifically in marginalized communities. Voting against my party in committee isn’t a political statement, I must remind you. It’s just a fundamental, ideological difference I hold on policing with my party. As a principled conservative, I have adopted the Nebraskan values of justice, ethics, and morality. I personally believe that this bill is a principled and common sense approach to long-overdue police reform.” Overall I’d like to say, Sasse, I'm proud of you for making the change that the people and Congress needed. It is not easy to be the bigger person when you were acting like a child a few weeks ago. Tis' the season and let's hope Sasse does not become sassy again.
