Wasted Time

Democratic Marriage Bill is not going to pass the Floor

Jonah Goldberg (Jae Hodge) // 24 October 2022

Liberals love to assume that the motives of the Republican Party are malicious. Since the Democratic party has decided that the Republican Agenda, in relation to the marriage bill, isn’t what they say it is, conspiracy theories are becoming more plausible and every reasonable compromise is now an impossibility.

During the last Judiciary Committee meeting, there were no attacks on the LGBTQ community from the Republican members, yet the Democratic party, based on opinions formed through the media, refused any sort of compromise. Additionally, once the Republican party realized their amendments were being considered, they wasted several minutes on aimless motions, in an attempt to stall the vote of the bill. It is clear, there was zero sincere effort from either side to do right by all parties concerned.

This bill is insufficiently reasoned and attempts to address an issue that does not exist. The Democratic party loves to lump all social issues together and argues that in light of the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, the rights of the LGBTQ community are now in jepoardy. Senator Masto, during an interview stated:

“I don’t understand how some individuals from the republican party think this fear (the overturning of gay and interacial marriage) appears without merit. To me it is an obvious conclusion as we have seen the actions of a more conservative court in recent time.”

This sentiment is a result of brash fear mongering in the Liberal Media, as the Republican party has explicitly stated that there is NO agenda to revisit the rights to interacial and gay marriage. This conspiracy demonstrates how partisanship has clouded the ability of senator’s to achieve legislation in the best interest of Americans, instead both sides of the aisle are working in spite of their opposing colleagues: refusing amendments and stalling consideration of bills.

This Bill will not make it past the floor, and should not have even been considered in committee. It has shown no potential for bipartisanship, and no further time should be wasted on it. It is a shame time will be taken up on the floor, but no doubt will be entertaining.
